The lightweight hybrid is 12 meters and less than 9 tonnes
Here it is. The lightweight hybrid bus from Solaris, with an empty weight of less than 9 tonnes and 12 meters long. Its weight with passengers is around 15 tonnes. Urbino and Trollino change their look. Solaris has presented at the Czechbus fair of this year both the new Urbino 12 Le lite hybrid and the new design of the Urbino and Trollino family.
Strength in lightness
So far Solaris electric buses have traveled a total of over 9 million kilometers. 350 zero emission vehicles were ordered and supplied, while over 2,000 feasibility studies were carried out. The lightweight hybrid version of the low-entry Urbino is an absolute novelty. The main objective of the Solaris research and development engineers, who developed the Urbino Le lite hybrid, was to create a bus capable of consuming less than 30 liters of fuel per 100 km in the Sort 2 test.
Downsizing and light hybrid
The engine is the 4.5-liter Cummins ISBE6. This engine meets Euro VI standards, has 157 kW of power and a torque of 843 Nm. The Urbino Le lite hybrid propulsion system also comes with a small electric machine with a nominal power of 11.5 kW, which has the task of recovering energy during the braking process and supporting the combustion engine when the vehicle starts to move.
The vehicle is part of the mild hybrid family and it represents a project similar to the one of Mercedes with the launch of the Mercedes Citaro hybrid, that came with a 14 kW electric motor (its version for long distances won the Sustainable Bus Award 2019).
A look to the features
The Solaris Urbino 12 Le lite hybrid will be available in the version with two doors in the arrangement 2-2-0. The bus will be able to carry up to 85 passengers, with 41 seats in particular. The front axle of the vehicle is the Zf Rl55 and the engine axle is of the Dana G150 type. The dimensions of the wheels differ from the standard solutions of Solaris city buses. This vehicle comes with wheels with a smaller diameter: 19.5 inches. The Solaris Urbino 12 Le lite hybrid pitch is 5,900 mm, with a front overhang of 2,550 mm and a rear one of 3,240 mm.
