BorgWarner’s latest High Voltage Hairpin (HVH) electric motor, the HVH 320, is ready to power a variety of hybrid and electric applications (here’s our post about the purchasing of Akasol) for commercial vehicle manufacturers, including a large European OEM. Production of the HVH 320, which is equipped with 800-volt capabilities and available in four variants, is expected to kick off in 2024. Its multi-faceted platform will support the manufacturers’ goal of a common electric drivetrain and deliver approximately 97 percent peak efficiency and over 400 kW of power.

Transfer cases for Nissan SUV and pick-up

In addition, BorgWarner has also secured a contract to supply its durable part-time transfer cases to the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan, for production of its Navara pick-up and Paladin SUV models. This business marks the first time BorgWarner has supplied transfer cases to Nissan, significantly extending its existing relationship with the manufacturer. The company’s two-speed, shift-on-the-fly transfer case features driver-selectable controls with electric motor for quick, smooth and accurate shifting between different drive modes.

BorgWarner Named 2020 CLEPA Innovation Award Winner for Cooled SiC Inverter

Lastly, BorgWarner has been awarded an Innovation Award in the Environment category by the CLEPA European Association of Automotive Suppliers for its cooled SiC inverter. The award recognizes outstanding mobility technology achievements among automotive suppliers. The company’s winning technology contains a patented silicon carbide power switch, called Viper, for next- generation inverters. The Viper power switch supports electrical systems up to 800V and enables multiple benefits, including increased efficiency with voltage flexibility, reduced recharging times, extended range and smaller battery size.
