In her speech at IAA Transportation 2024, Cummins Chair and CEO Jennifer Rumsey emphasized Cummins’ commitment to delivering a diverse portfolio of power solutions as part of the company’s Destination Zero strategy to progress industry decarbonisation.

Our customers are running real businesses, and our products are helping them do the difficult work needed to power economies, move goods around the world and provide good jobs for people in our communities. And as we move closer to these new, stricter vehicle-level standards, power technology decisions are becoming tougher and more complex.”

Rumsey went on to discuss feedback from Cummins’ customers on challenges they are experiencing as part of their decarbonisation strategies.

2030 is less than six years away, yet the energy transition and infrastructure buildout to support it is proving slower and more complex than many originally thought. It’s clear that CO2 regulations will not be met with a single solution. We know our customers need optionality, and we’re here to show that Cummins and Accelera have all the components in our portfolio to provide a solution, either in part or as a full powertrain, based on our customers’ needs.”

Rumsey highlighted Cummins’ Destination Zero strategy and the company’s now-extensive product range, which leverages the company’s integrated suite of innovative power solutions across both its core and Accelera by Cummins businesses to continue advancing engine-based technologies, while also expanding the zero-emissions offerings and wider powertrain capabilities. It meets customers’ varied needs and drives real-world greenhouse gas reductions now and into the future, regardless of the pace of adoption for zero-emissions solutions.

The company has invested significantly to deliver on its Destination Zero strategy, allocating a company record $1.4 billion to research and development (R&D) in 2023, with $250 million of this spent in Europe alone. This investment has enabled greenhouse gas reductions through improvements in fuel economy performance of diesel and natural gas powertrains, as well as development of hydrogen internal combustion engine solutions and battery electric, fuel cell electric and hydrogen production technologies.

Cummins at IAA Transportation 2024

Taking place in Hannover, Germany, visitors to the Cummins booth at IAA Transportation will see a range of power solutions, including the Euro-7 ready X10 and the X15H hydrogen internal combustion engines from the Cummins HELM platforms. These fuel agnostic platforms share a common base engine design that is optimized to run on a single fuel – advanced diesel, natural gas or hydrogen, reducing integration complexity for OEMs and providing range and refueling speed benefits in operation.

Accelera by Cummins is showcasing cutting edge zero-emissions technology, including a hydrogen fuel cell engine, next-generation lithium iron phosphate battery solutions, eAxles, eTurbocharger, eCompressor and hydrogen fuel storage solutions.

Cummins is also displaying its full powertrain capabilities, including axles and brakes.
