There is an absolute star on the MAN Engines stand at bauma. It is the 24-litre D2862 engine for high-performance construction machinery and mining vehicles. A unit as robust as it is work-hardened, which lends itself to heavy-duty applications. We explored the topic in more detail in the article on page 24 of the March-April issue of POWERTRAIN International, which was distributed at bauma Munich.

The D2862 at the MAN Truck & Bus North Open-Air Site

It is an engine we know well, because of its universality, since it is a beseller both in power generation and among yachts. The MAN D2862 LE13x is a 12-cylinder, 24.24-liter engine (BxS 128 x 157 mm) delivering between 588 and 816 kW (800–1,110 HP) with a maximum torque of 3,750–5,000 Nm at 1,300–1,400 rpm. With its compact dimensions (1,660 x 1,333 x 1,391 mm) and a modular exhaust aftertreatment system with freely positionable components, the engine offers maximum installation flexibility. To meet Tier 4 Final and EU Stage V emissions standards, it uses “SCR only” technology without exhaust gas recirculation. And what about alternatives fuels? Read HERE.

The narrative about MAN Engines’ attendance at bauma

We not only offer our customers the robust and reliable MAN engines with excellent power density. Rather, our experienced integration specialists adapt these engines to the requirements of the respective application. In this way, they create added value and a unique selling point for our customers,” says Hubert Gossner, Head of Off-Road/Power of the MAN Engines business unit.

Initial field results with the MAN V-engine product line for heavy-duty construction and mining applications have been promising, such as Gossner confirmed: “We were able to see a significant increase in performance in the test machines with noticeably lower fuel consumption at the same time. The engines proved their high load capacity and durability under the most difficult environmental conditions.”
