Briggs & Stratton is back in the spotlight at bauma in Munich, and it’s a very good news. The Milwaukee-based company’s move comes five years after the completion of sale to KPS Capital Partners, announced on 23 September 2020. What are we going to see at the Munich Trade Fairs? All the aces of the Vanguard power range will be there, including durable drop-fit single-cylinder engines, high-performance BIG BLOCK petrol alternatives to diesel, and lithium-ion battery technology.

At bauma with Vanguard Series by Briggs & Stratton

Among the familiar faces of the Milwaukee crew will be the Vanguard single-cylinder, horizontal shaft commercial engines, including the Vanguard 160, 200, 300, and 400 EFI/ETC model.The maintenance intervals – 200-hour oil maintenance and 600-hour air cleaner maintenance – are set to reduce downtime and to improve TCO.  Also featured will be Vanguard’s BIG BLOCK EFI/ETC 29,9 kW engine. Vanguard’s Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) technology is the trump card to optimise fuel efficiency.

And Battery Pack Range and Battery System Solution

At bauma Briggs & Stratton relaunched the challenge that had led it to open one of the first battery assembly plants in the western world. The B&S solutions are ranging from 1,5 kWh to 70 kWh, built with an aluminum casing, high IP ratings, and an integrated Battery Management System (BMS). This last one includes battery packs and chargers, along with soon-to-be-launched new motors, and motor controllers. So, a fully integrated system ensures all components work seamlessly together, accelerating the energy transition and streamlining electrification.

The Vanguard 48V 1,5kWh2 (Si1.5) is a fully swappable battery that is interchangeable across brands and applications, and the 48V 5,0kWh3 (Fi5.0), a fixed commercial battery pack that offers a total solution for OEMs and operators. Already successfully integrated into several real-world applications, such as the ARE demolition robot, EQLab Powerbank, B-Mac Trowel, and the Scorpick Pick & Carry crane applications on display at the German shows. Furthermore, Vanguard will launch an electrified construction consortium at bauma 2025, a platform of OEMs who have chosen to collaborate around the Si1.5 swappable battery system. The portfolio of this group spans various construction applications, from floor saws to concrete trowels and mini dumpers, leveraging the power of standardisation on a unified power platform.
