ABB speeds up the timetable for the Ecodesign Requirements EU Regulation. The new European Union (EU) Regulation 2019/1781 came into force in October 2019 and sets new requirements, starting July 1, 2021, for the energy performance of a wider range of low voltage motors. For the first time, variable speed drives are also regulated.

In addition to defining more stringent minimum efficiency levels, the Regulation – which will come into force in two stages – also extends the range of three-phase single-speed motors from 0.12 to 1,000 kilowatts (kW) affected by the measure. The same range of powers applies to the drives.

ABB and the Ecodesign Requirements

Anticipating the Ecodesign Requirements EU Regulation

The aim is to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in order to limit the increase in the average temperature of the globe to 1.5°C. Hannu Vaananen, Head of Public Affairs, Business Line Motors and Generators, explained why ABB decided to anticipate the new standards. «We are already able to provide our customers with compliant engines. The same applies to our variable speed drives and hitherto exempted types of motors, such as explosion-proof (Ex) motors, fully enclosed motors without ventilation (TEAO) and motors for 60 Hz grids. Customers can therefore easily purchase our products».

Customer support: ABB Motion launches the Order Tracker

In an undoubtedly special time like the one we are about to reasonably leave behind, ABB has made an extra effort to ensure that customer support is never lacking. The ABB Motion division, in particular, launched the so-called Order Tracker, which is the ability to monitor the status of an order and the shipment of an engine/drive. It is all well described in the video below (in Italian).
