Deutz strengthens expertise in combustion engines by the acquisition of HJS Emission Technology
Deutz acquires 50 percent of the shares in the family-owned company HJS Emission Technology, a specialist in exhaust gas aftertreatment.
Deutz is strengthening its technology and production expertise to make combustion engines even more efficient and cleaner by acquiring a stake in HJS Emission Technology, a specialist in exhaust gas aftertreatment. To this end, both parties signed an agreement end of November, under which Deutz will acquire 50 percent of the shares in HJS Emission Technology. The closing is scheduled to take place at the beginning of 2025 after receipt of merger control clearance.
As a medium-sized family business based in Menden/Sauerland (Germany), HJS Emission Technology stands for many years of experience and competence in the field of exhaust gas aftertreatment, especially for diesel engines. With around 300 employees, the supplier develops, manufactures and markets electrical and mechanical components to reduce pollutant emissions. Due to the contractually agreed governance structure, Deutz will consolidate the company within the Group going forward. In doing so, Deutz continues to rely on the competent management team led by Robin Trompetter, CEO of HJS Emission Technology.
“The combustion engine is not a discontinued technology. This is certainly true for applications where machines are constantly in use and move large loads. The technology will therefore continue to be of strategic importance to us in the future,” says Deutz CEO Sebastian C. Schulte. “Resilience in the supply chains is correspondingly important to us. This is especially true for key components in the field of exhaust gas aftertreatment, which enables cleaner engines. HJS Emission Technology is a technology leader in this field, with whom we and other established companies have been working well for years. With our investment in the company, we ensure that these critical components will continue to be reliably manufactured and sourced for us and other customers via HJS Emission Technology in the future. This strategic step also shows that Deutz is consistently committed to Germany as a business location and that we are taking a stand against deindustrialisation in our areas of activity.”
With this step, Deutz is continuing its active role in consolidation in the combustion engine market. In the future, it is planned to purchase a large part of the components and systems required for exhaust gas aftertreatment of selected engine series from HJS Emission Technology and thus from the own Group. To this end, the relevant business of a previous Deutz supplier will also be relocated in 2025.
