Thermo King, a leader in temperature control solutions in transportation and a brand of Trane Technologies, premiered the new E-Series all-electric battery-powered refrigeration units for light commercial vehicles (LCVs) at Iaa Transportation 2022 in Hanover between 3.5 and 7.5 tons. The new series, presented in collaboration with Iveco, is mounted on the new Iveco eDaily zero-emission van.

Battery range, battery life cycle and intelligent power management between the refrigeration unit and battery electric vehicle are some of the central elements behind the E Series design to achieve the highest possible efficiency,” said Graham Wells, Thermo King’s product manager for truck-powered vehicle-powered units in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). “As a result, the new E Series will have a reduced impact on vehicle range and provide our customers with greater value, while contributing to a lower total cost of ownership (TCO).”

We are proud to launch our new eDaily at IAA Transportation”, says Vittorio Bussi, Head of Iveco Commercial Vehicle Product Management. “It represents the culmination of Iveco’s expertise in electric propulsion, built on the basis of feedback from our customers in the various missions. The new eDaily retains the legendary characteristics of our iconic Daily: solidity, reliability, performance and versatility. The fully modular drum set makes it the perfect companion for any mission. And there’s more: the new eDaily introduces ePTO up to 15 kW capable of delivering energy even with the engine off; an ideal turning point for applications such as refrigerated transport. With this new extraordinary range of vehicles, Iveco and Thermo King can satisfy the needs of customers for every type of mission”.

The new E-Series units are connected and powered directly from the vehicle’s battery. To deliver optimum temperature control performance with low power consumption, the new E Series features custom designed, patented inverter technology and a powerful hermetic variable speed refrigeration compressor. The patented power management and control system intelligently optimizes the supply and demand of energy in real time, minimizing the impact on the vehicle’s battery when it is on the road or out for a delivery.

The provision of electrical solutions for refrigerated transportation is part of Thermo King and Trane Technologies’ global approach to reducing carbon emissions. It helps drive sustainability commitments by 2030, including the gigaton challenge, aimed at reducing customers’ greenhouse gas emissions by 1 billion tonnes.
