Himoinsa generators will get Stage V engines
Himoinsa generators ready for Stage V are on the way. The company is working on the design of a new range of generator sets with Stage V engines, based on EU Regulation 2016/1628 for off-road mobile machinery.
The aim for the new S5 Generator will be to incorporate new design and features to make it recognizable, technologically advanced and competitive on the European rental market.
The company will continue to offer generator sets with Stage IIIA engines for a period of up to 24 months after the new regulation goes into effect. The transition period for generator sets with powers of less than 56 kW and more than 130 kW will last until December 2020. However, models with powers between 56 and 130 kW, with Stage IIIA engines, will continue to be available until December 2021.
S5 Generator sets
The new generator sets range will include models with really important co-protagonists: we are talking about Yanmar, FPT and Scania engines. The generator will incorporate a new canopy design to accommodate the machine’s new after-treatment system as well as the electrical installations. One of the greatest innovations in the S5 generator sets will be their control panels, designed to ensure a reliable and efficient coordination with the control panels of the new Stage V engines.

The challenge behind this project: the new regulations
The topic in particular is: emissions from engines in non-road mobile machinery. In order to gradually reduce air pollution, Directive 97/68/EC came into play in 1997 to establish the right requirements relating to emission limits (stages I, II, IIIA, IIIB and IV) and type-approval procedures for engines for non-road mobile machinery.
In January 2017, Directive 97/68/EC left its place to make space to the ‘younger’ Regulation (EU) No 2016/1628, which establishes emission limits for gaseous and particulate pollutants (known as Stage V) for engines of non-road mobile machinery. Together with administrative and technical requirements relating to type approval. This regulation will affect products marketed from 1 January 2019. However, it provides for a ‘transition’ period, in which equipment with engines manufactured in 2018, so not Stage V-approved, may still sell on the market.
