Deutz’s presence at InnoTrans in Berlin is due to the differentiation of energy sources for locomotives. Until about fifteen years ago, the diesel engine monopolized non-electrified railway lines. Deutz was one of the players in this scenario, which saw mtu, MAN, FPT Industrial, Isotta Fraschini as giants. The season of the glorious underfloor engines and powerpacks is coming to an end. What remains to be done? Differentiate energy sources, conceiving hydrogen or battery propulsion systems.

Innotrans started in a very attractive way and Deutz too

InnoTrans is the industry’s largest trade fair in the public transport sector, with 200,000 square meters of exhibition space on the fully occupied Messe Berlin exhibition grounds. The expo will be running from 24th September until 27th September on the biggest display area since the show’s launch in 1996. 2,940 exhibitors from 59 countries occupy the entire exhibition grounds. 226 world innovations are displayed, plus 113 vehicles on 3,500 metres of rail track. One of the stars of the Deutz booth is definitely the TCG 7.8 H2 hydrogen combustion engine. We know, you heard about that, concerning the delivery of 100 hydrogen-powered generators based on the TCG 7.8 H2 engine to the Chinese State Innovation Zone ZGC. The zone in Beijing is known as the “Silicon Valley of China” due to its science and technology center.

At the InnoTrans Deutz exhibited also high performance NMC battery, one of the more commonly used lithium-ion chemistries (Nickel Manganese Cobalt). Up to 400 V and 600 A, set to be very compact (formfactor for engine compartments or narrow spaces) and flexible as well. They are available in parallel and serial connection. The Deutz GEN2 modulary battery kit provides a nominal capacity of 38.6, 41.1 and 59.2 kWe.
