SAME Deutz-Fahr (SDF), a strong growth in 2021: turnover at € 1,481 million (+ 29%)
The data highlighted an excellent year for Same Deutz-Fahr. The increases are substantial in all major areas. For 2022, the goal was to reach one billion and 800 million, but it will depend a lot on the prolongation of the raw material crisis and the conflict in Ukraine
2021 is certainly a year to frame for SAME Deutz-Fahr (SDF). The group based in Treviglio (Bergamo, Italy) has in fact achieved the best financial result of the new millennium, consolidating a turnover close to one and a half billion euros. To be precise, the turnover reached 1,481 million euros, marking a plus 29% on 2020 and a plus 19% on 2019, the latest pre-pandemic balance, therefore much more relevant in comparison. The result of the work of the 8 production plants between Europe and Asia, 13 commercial branches, 155 importers, 3,100 dealers, a joint venture in China and one in Russia. And obviously about 4,200 employees, of which 300 hired in 2021.
Same Deutz-Fahr, produced 36,210 tractors in 2021. The numbers of an excellent year
Lodovico Bussolati, CEO of the Bergamo-based multinational, talks about the results of SDF at the annual press conference. Sales in all areas of the planet showed a clear increase with production volumes at the level of tractors jumped from 26,481 produced in 2020 to 36,210 in 2021, making a good 16 percent increase in Treviglio, plus 87 percent in Lauingen, Germany ( and we are talking about machines above 140 hp, therefore with more consistent margins), plus 103 percent in Bandirma, Turkey, plus 21 percent in Ranipet, India and plus 22 percent in Linshu, China.
“With 980 million euros, the largest share of turnover still belongs to Europe (66 percent) – commented Bussolati – but the other areas of the world are growing strongly, thanks to the exploit of Turkey with 251 million euros and to the Lauingen product outlets in new areas, Australia and New Zealand in the lead. Very well also in China where with a share of 3 percent we are the leading western manufacturer but above all we started immediately with medium and high power products, anticipating what is now a consolidated trend of that market.”
SAME Deutz-Fahr, the European market grows. But also in the world there have been great improvements
In 2021, the company increased its market share in Europe from 10.7 percent to 11.4 and that in Turkey from 6.6 percent to 9.7. In the rest of the non-European countries, turnover increased by 27.6 percent. The SDF gross operating margin was 10.8 percent (159 million euros), with a net profit of 62.6 million. 63 million were invested in research and development, which correspond to 4.3 per cent of turnover, in line with what has been done in recent years.
The main product evolutions concerned the launch of the specialized Deutz-Fahr 5DF/S/V TTV (Same Frutteto Cvt) range, the new Deutz-Fahr 6C (Same Virtus) with RVshift transmission, the renewal of the Deutz-Fahr high power range 6 TTV and 7 TTV, with the new transmissions, the transition to Stage V for powers from 65 to 160 horsepower and the development of smart technologies for 4.0 and precision farming.
SAME and the engines. An extended relationship
A relationship that has continued since 1942. After leaving the shareholding of Deutz AG in Cologne, SAME stepped up production of its own industrial engines, the Farmotion Series, 2.9 and 3.8 litre diesel engines.
