Cat does not only mean original equipment, but also repowering. In applications such as marine and rail, repowering is essential because of the duty cycle (for pleasure craft) and the longlife of service (towing and shunting locomotives).

Cat C32B for repowering recreational and commercial boats

Charlson Smith, Americas Pleasure Craft & Yachting Segment Manager for Caterpillar Marine, commented on the 12-cylinder’s versatility in repowering. “The C32B product line ushers in a new era for vessel operators by offering a high-power density V12 engine capable of powering many of the world’s largest sport fishers and motor yachts. By bringing an EPA Tier 3 and IMO III-compliant engine to market, we’re enabling customers to enjoy reliable power with a relatively low carbon footprint, all while being served by a vast global dealer network,“. The C32B product line is available as a 12-cylinder in a range of power options from 1800 to 2400 bhp (1825-2433 mhp). A more comfortable user experience results from the engine’s higher power density; the latest ADEM 6 ECM electronics; and reduced noise levels at lower speeds. Maximum power in the same footprint supports boatbuilders for easy repower installation. These engines are also available with the newly enhanced Cat Concierge Plus program for unparalleled and personalized 24/7 global remote support.

An engine in good health

An all-new engine design from the block up delivers 25% more power and better acceleration with its sequential air system. Plus, its advanced unit injection fuel system enables 25% quieter operation. This engine has recently undergone a major restyling that puts it at the top of its range. We have talked about it in detail because of the competition between MAN, Rolls-Royce Power Systems and Caterpillar itself, who are chasing each other to raise the bar to and beyond the 2000hp threshold.
