The Amer 120 charter yacht will be powered by Volvo Penta IPS. The yacht, designed and manufactured by the Italian shipyard Amer Yachts, has an LOA of 36.5 meters, a beam of 7.70 meters and is characterized by a full-width superstructure that accommodates all the spaces of the main deck – saloon, owner’s cabin, kitchen, etc.

The compact design of Volvo Penta IPS delivers more space onboard – a small engine room allows for extra crew cabins, and storage for toys like jet skis – making the Amer 120 suitable for charter holidays. Amer 120 is equipped with four Volvo Penta D13-IPS1350 engines (4 x 1000 hp). This powerful setup allows the yacht to reach a max speed of 26 knots, quite impressive for a boat of this size. Stability and quietness are some more qualities that are highly appreciated by customers, according to Volvo Penta. The pairing of Amer Yachts’ sleek design with Volvo Penta IPS results in an extremely maneuverable vessel. Additionally, the Volvo Penta joystick makes maneuvering in narrow berths, windy environments, or strong currents easy – great for crews that are always on the move.

With Volvo Penta IPS, Amer experienced a reduction in consumption

In initial simulations, Amer 120 showed a reduction in fuel consumption so substantial that captains could save enough fuel to gain an extra day of navigation or a further destination in the itinerary. The Volvo Penta D13-IPS1350 system will soon be available with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) installation that meets IMO III emission regulations and permits sailing in the so-called Emission Control Areas (ECA) – futureproofing charter operators’ vessels whilst at the same time reducing emissions and maintaining performance and low fuel consumption.

The evolution of Volvo Penta Assisted Docking

Volvo Penta and Garmin have been working together in order to combine two independent systems, namely Volvo Penta Assisted Docking and Garmin Surround View Camera System. The latter is a combination of 360-degree real-time views provided by the Surround View 6-camera array. Together they deliver a great added offering across standard Garmin installations that provide greater peace of mind for captains when maneuvering in tight situations.

Volvo Penta Assisted Docking allows the captain to defy the elements by removing the dynamics of wind and current while maneuvering in tight spaces, enabling safe and easy boat docking even in challenging conditions. In the Volvo Penta Glass Cockpit System, users can access and control Garmin Surround View via the joystick. When pressing Assisted Docking on the Volvo Penta joystick, the screens will automatically be updated. And, in addition to its 360-degree view cameras, the Garmin Surround View can also be equipped with user-configurable Visual Bumper and Distance Markers – similar to those found in cars – which will show when an object gets too close.
