The launch of the 40-litre 12AYEM engine is proof that Yanmar is not just a leading brand in compact engines. Quite the contrary! Those who linger on the NRMM pages of Powertrain International will associate the Osaka-based manufacturer’s name with the TNV series. In power generation Yanmar also specialises in huge bore engines. Just think of the HGY Series from Himoinsa powered by the GY175L engine family.

Yanmar’s new 12AYEM family

This heavy-duty marine engine family V12, 40.758-litre engine (BxS: 155 x180 mm) is designed to meet the demanding needs of commercial vessels, delivering a range of 1,381 to 1,797 horsepower. Built with durability, the Yanmar 12AYEM features cast-iron mono-blocks and individual cylinder heads, ensuring reduced maintenance time and extended operational efficiency. The 12AYEM incorporates turbocharging and intercooling alongside an electronic governor and the VC20 monitoring system. With an emissions rating that meets IMO Tier III standards and China Marine regulations (Stage I & II), the 12AYEM also helps reduce the environmental impact of marine operations.

About the maintenance and so on

To further minimise downtime, this engine offers a 500-hour oil change service interval, ensuring continuous, reliable performance over the long term. For operators looking for an integrated solution, the 12AYEM can be paired with a Yanmar gearbox, providing seamless power transmission with the quality and reliability that Yanmar is known for.
