AGCO Power’s presence at bauma 2025 did not go unnoticed. The engine brench of the AGCO Group had two aces up its sleeve. One close to mass production, the other still at prototype stage, with a very interesting formula. Anyway, we will report on the concept, the so called eHydrogen prototype, and more in the POWERTRAIN International May-June issue.

Tommi Puomisto explained AGCO’s version at bauma 2025

We have a big news, and it’s called Core 80,” Puomisto stated. “It’s the biggest and smartest of the Core engines. AGCO revealed it just today beginning of bauma 2025. So, Core 80 is basically fulfilling the four engine that we have at the moment, we have Core 80, 75 and 50. Core 80 in the name stands for 8 litres, that’s the displacement of the of the engine. So you might think it’s not that much bigger than the core 75, which is 7.5 litre and that’s right, it has slightly more power. So, 252 kW is the maximum power for the Core 80 but it has significantly more torque, up from 1450 Nm of the Core 75, we have 1680 Nm”.

Contextualising the positioning of the Core Series, Puomisto points out “all the Core engines are available for the OEM market, it’s part of the AGCO Dna is that we offer tailor made engines, they have use in the AGCO tractors. The Core 75 was first in the 700 series Vario Fendt. Therefore, Core 50 was in the 600 series Vario Fendt. We are not revealing yet where the Core 80 will go, but when we can say is that the Core 80 is going to serial production in the summer. And will be telling more about where we are using it in in the near future, let’s say this year.”

Features & news

Finally, the highlights of Core 80: “There’s something that is completely new. Is that it has a variable geometry turbocharger. This is the first AGCO power engine that has engine breaking capability. Through the VGT turbocharger we get a nice amount of breaking capability, VGT also reduces fuel consumption, so already AGCO Power engines have excellent fuel consumption and makes it even better and it brings more torque and makes the engine more responsive. And the other completely new features is the over the air (OTA) connectivity, so you are able to connect to the ECU of the engine and monitor control even new software updates to the engine remotely. So, so that makes the fleet management a lot easier. They are now in the Core 80, but those features can and most likely will be added to the future updated models of the Core 75 and the Core 50 as well.”
