A captive engine for JCB agricultural telehandlers. JCB’s 532-70 and 536-95 telehandlers, the two most successful models in the third-generation range unveiled at the last Agritechnica, are now also available with the new TL40 equipment, which allows them to reach a top speed of 40 kilometres per hour, making road travel easier.

This is due to the TorqueLock4 direct transmission, a powershift with four forward and four reverse gears equipped with a torque converter that can be locked in the highest gear. This in turn uses a clutch capable of mechanically joining the turbine and converter pump, thus avoiding any possible loss of energy.

Engine and aftertreatment system of JCB agricultural telehandlers

The transmission enters into direct contact with the engine in a similar way to a car with a mechanical clutch, improving energy efficiency and, consequently, the achievable top speed.

And here we come to the engine. The 532-70 and 536-95 telehandlers are equipped with JCB Ecomax engines with a 4.4 liter displacement and 110 horsepower (80 kilowatts). The JCB Ecomax engine indeed won the Diesel of the Year award almost 10 years ago, back in 2011. As for the models we are talking about, the engine uses an aftertreatment system made of and SCR and DOC catalyst.

Sway Control System

Among the features that the 532-70 and 536-95 models share with the other Series III models is the new electro-hydraulically operated Sway Control system, which uses a double-acting hydraulic cylinder attached to the chassis and front axle to allow the operator to adjust the machine to a vertical position before raising the boom on a sloping or uneven surface.
