The report from Middle East Energy 2020. We would have liked to talk – as usual, indeed – only about engines, technology, innovation. We must, however, inevitably begin with the great current global emergency, the coronavirus outbreak which has, among its consequences, the cancellation or postponement of most of the events scheduled in this period. The Middle East Energy 2020 was held regularly at the World Trade Center in Dubai, but had to deal with some excellent defections (Baudouin, for instance, which had put a lot of emphasis on this exhibition, as well as several Italian companies). Other leading manufacturers confirmed their presence, however, relying on local dealers. And what about visitors? Waiting for the official data that the organizers will be releasing in the coming days, it was clear, also in this case, the drop due to the Covid-19 effect.
Cummins, Perkins, Kohler
We were there, however, and we mainly scanned the power generation pavilion in search of news, which we will bring back to you in the coming weeks. Starting with the novelties coming from Cummins, with the official presentation of the C25G natural gas generator, which we had seen in England last month and which we have already written about in the March issue of DIESEL. The generator is equipped with the G9512 engine by Liebherr.
WHAT HAPPENED IN DUBAI LAST YEAR
There were three highlights at the Perkins stand, whose engines were also on display at some genset manufacturers (Jubaili Bros and the Italian company Green Power, just to mention two names). We will tell you more about the powerful 4008, specific for prime power applications, the 1103 for the TLC sector, as well as the 1706 and 2806 models, respectively 9.3 and 18 litre displacement.
In the centenary year since the founding of Kohler Power, Kohler SDMO has shown the potential of its collaboration with Baudouin, supplier of the 12-cylinder mechanical engine for the 50 Hertz B1250 genset.
Middle East Energy 2020: the other companies involved
The Covid-19 outbreak forced FPT, Volvo Penta and John Deere to participate in reduced ranks. We had, however, anticipated the details before the start of Middle East Energy 2020. Doosan has a range of generator set engines from 7 to 995 kilowatts and introduced the 12-cylinder, 21.9-liter, C-Series Tier II DP222 electronic engine with Bosch common rail injection system. From Korea to Japan, Kubota announced the launch of two new additions to the 03 Series for power generation. The D1803 and V2403 models, with 3-cylinder and 4-cylinder engines respectively, are capable of delivering 10 percent less fuel consumption compared to previous models included in the portfolio of the Japanese manufacturer.
Some of the Italian exhibitors who are used to participate in Middle East Energy inevitably had to forfeit. Ascot and Ausonia (gensets), Sices (control systems) and Marelli Motori (alternators) were regularly in place. Coelmo put on display a genset equipped with an FPT Stage V engine, although there were no Italian representatives to tell us about it. There was no lack of news, in short. The return to normality would, however, be the most awaited one.
