SAME and Turkey. A second home for FARMotion
SAME inaugurated in May 2024 a plant in Turkey also committed to FARMotion engines

The 3-cylinder 2.9-litre and 4-cylinder 3.8-litre SAME engines, which go by the familiar name of FARMotion, have also been rolling off the Italy-based company’s Turkish manufacturing lines for over a year. A new 10,000 square metre plant in Turkey for FARMotion production and machining is located in Bandirma. Located on the Marmara Sea, roughly overlooking Istanbul, it marks SAME’s presence in the Anatolian peninsula since 2013. Among the various investments made on site, which can be counted at more than 100 million euros between production infrastructure, plant, machinery and working capital, Bandirma’s tractor production has seen the introduction of a painting plant and has experienced two expansions, the first in 2019 that doubled the surface area to 20,000 m2, later extended to 24,000 m2.
In Turkey, SAME engines are doing well
That area has indeed confirmed the appeal of the SDF brand, as can be seen by the production of tractors, which has risen from 1,000 to around 14,000 in 10 years. In Turkey, the FARMotion engines have fulfilled the need for reliability and strength, net of the technological update, which has raised the power bar of the 3.8-litre to 15 kW at 2,000 rpm with a torque of 660 Nm at 1,400 rpm as of 2019, as Manlio Mattei explained in this interview. Just think that the market share has risen in a decade from 1% to 14%. The growth in revenues in the domestic market will result in a turnover of 488 million euro in 2023, more than doubling the 2022 performance.

Let’s hear from the management
“With the inauguration of the new factory dedicated to FARMotion engines,” said Lodovico Bussolati, Ceo of the SDF Group, “SDF adds in Turkey the production of 3, 4 and 6 cylinder engines, which undoubtedly represent one of the main and fundamental core components for the production of tractors, destined not only for the local market but also for the foreign and especially the European market, which is very demanding in terms of performance and efficiency”.
“In our country, the agricultural sector is undergoing an important transformation, thanks to the professionalisation of operators and the introduction of tractors with high technological specifications,” said Giampaolo Cameli CEO of SDF Turkey, ”The production on site of core components such as the engine and transmission, contributes decisively to this growth process.”
