The range of 13-liter Scania engines was able to celebrate the introduction of the 400 kW version. The new engine is mainly designed for applications and customers that require high power and adequate reliability combined with sensitivity to the workload or weight limitations on the front axle.

The words of Alexander Vlaskamp on the newcomer

«Faithful to our promise to guarantee an increasingly customized offer, we have responded to our customers’ need for a top-of-the-range version of our 13-liter flagship», emphasized Alexander Vlaskamp, Senior Vice President, Head of Scania Trucks. «Our range of 6-cylinder in-line engines is the market leader in terms of consumption. The Scania vehicles with 13-liter engines, in particular, have been crowned “Green Truck” in Germany for the third consecutive year, a truly extraordinary result».

«The powerful 540 hp engine (400 kW) is designed primarily for those customers and markets where legal aspects regarding the front axle prevent the choice of a V8 engine. In general, it is a perfect engine for anyone who needs more power for their transport operations. With the right ratio, it will work well in both timber and tulip transport. In the latter case, vehicles travel on Europe’s highways with rather light loads but with attention to fuel consumption and average speeds».

«The better fuel management and the optimized weight/power ratio will make this engine an attractive choice for many Scania customers».

SCANIA OC16: BIOGAS STEP BY STEP

Scania’s 13-liter engines reach the fifth level

Scania now offers 5 power levels of the well-known 6-cylinder in-line engine: 270, 300, 330, 370 and 400 kW (370, 410, 450, 500 and 540 hp). The newcomer shares much of the technology with its 370 kW twin, starting with the fixed geometry turbocharger with ball bearings instead of bushings. What all 13-liter Scania engines have in common is their fuel consumption performance and the use of Scr technology for all the management of emissions. The new 13-liter engine maintains its maximum power at 1,800 rpm, but with a maximum torque of 2,700 Nm achievable between 1,000 and 1,300 rpm.
