‘Et voilà!’, Cat news from Vegas

Cat news for construction equipment, machinery and on site technology. We told you first impressions from Caterpillar’s anthological stand at the Conexpo in Las Vegas. Now let’s continue with a second and final overview.

Ultra High Demolition excavator. Obviously propulsion is by the Peoria ‘courtyard’. Under the bonnet the Cat C13 engine, rated at 304 kW, and meeting EU Stage V/U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emissions standards. The C13 also is capable of operating on biodiesel up to B20. Three power modes in the machines allow the operator to match machine performance to the task at hand, and a new high efficiency, hydraulic, reversing fan cools the engine on demand to help reduce fuel consumption.

Cat 352 UHD Ultra High Demolition excavator

The Cat 352 UHD Ultra High Demolition excavator is designed to handle difficult demolition of tall structures using a range of Cat demolition attachments, including multi-processors, grapples, shears and hydraulic hammers with the retrofit boom. The UHD front can be switched for a straight or bent (retrofit) boom position for lower-level demolition and earthmoving applications. This switch typically is done in about 15 minutes with 2 people with no special tool required. The 352 UHD features a variable-gauge undercarriage (hydraulically activated), as well as the Cat Active Stability Monitoring system, which continuously informs the operator of work tool position within a safe working range and warns when approaching stability limits.

Wheeled excavators. Powered by Cat C4.4 engines the Cat M314 and M318 – feature multiple design updates that boost machine efficiency and lower long-term operating costs. Advanced hydraulics more efficiently power attachments, including Cat tiltrotators to increase machine flexibility at the jobsite.

Cat 9.3 ACERT to power the articulated truck

Articulated truck. The new 26.5-ton (24-tonne) payload 725 truck retains the renowned reliability and durability of the 725C2, while increasing performance for customers engaging in heavy and general construction, mining, quarry and aggregates, landfill, waste and industrial applications. The new Cat 725 articulated truck powertrain includes the Cat CX31 six-speed transmission with advanced features to deliver smoother shifting, up to 8 percent greater acceleration and increased speed on grade of as much as 9 percent. The engine? Cat 9.3 ACERT.

Compact Wheel Loader. Caterpillar has added three new models to the lineup, each with significant design enhancements: 910, 914, and 920. The new engine has the same torque performance as the previous Cat 4.4, and also provides a modest increase in rated gross power, increasing from 101 to 111 horsepower (74 to 82 kW) for the 910 and 914, and from 117 to 122 horsepower (86 to 90 kW) for the 920. Caterpillar estimates up to 5 percent gains in fuel-efficiency with the new engine, and the C3.6 meets EU Stage V and U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emission standards. Fuel-tank capacity also is increased by 2.9 gallons (11 liters) for the new loaders, allowing extended work cyclesg the 918M. Among the design changes is a new engine for all three models; the Cat C3.6 replaces the C4.4, and with the new engine, all models get a horsepower boost.

Cat C3.6 and Cat C7.1 engines

Backhoe loaders. The new line consists of the Cat 428, 432, 434 and the 444 models, replacing the 428F2, 432F2, 434F2 and the 444F2 machines respectively. The Cat C3.6 engine meets EU Stage V emission standards. The engine consists of a service-free Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) emission solution with diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and diesel particulate filter (DPF). The 428 is available with a 55 kW engine, replacing the 427F2, and requires only a DPF to meet the EU Stage V emission standards. The DPF is designed to deliver reliable operation throughout the machine’s service life.

Motor grader. Among Cat news also the 140GC motor grader. The 140 GC’s powerful Cat C7.1 engine, 6F/3R automatic power-shift transmission (which eliminates the inching pedal), and precisely designed hydraulic system ensure balanced performance in all operating situations.
