FPT Industrial, New Holland and Iveco have recently signed an agreement in favor of biomethane

The cooperation agreement for the development of biomethane in the transport sector in Italy between Confagricoltura (an Italian famers association), CIB (the Italian biogas consortium), ENI, SNAM and the three most active CNH Industrial Group companies on this front, took place on 18 April in Rome: FPT Industrial, New Holland Agriculture and Iveco.

Present at the signing Luciano Nieto, Head of Technical Secretariat of the Minister of Agricultural, Food, Forestry and Tourism Policies, Davide Crippa, Undersecretary Ministry of Economic Development, Vannia Gava, Undersecretary Ministry of Environment and Land and Sea Protection, and others institutional representatives.

biomethane

FPT Industrial is one of the leading European producers of natural gas engines for industrial vehicles and applications. There are around 45,000 natural gas or biomethane engines in circulation in Europe and, as part of the FPT Industrial brand, we can find the most powerful 100% natural gas engine available for industrial vehicles, the 338 kW Cursor 13 Natural Gas. An engine capable of reducing particulate emissions by 99% and of almost eliminating CO2 ones if powered by biomethane.

The contribution of New Holland and Iveco

New Holland Agriculture has recently presented a tractor concept powered by natural gas, while previous methane prototypes have been tested in different farms to be able to industrialize this solution as soon as possible. A farmer who produces biomethane from waste biomass could make his company energy independent and contribute to drastically reducing the total CO2 emissions of his own vehicles.

Iveco and Iveco Bus are already present on European roads with almost 30,000 commercial vehicles and buses powered by methane, both compressed and liquefied. A 338 kW Iveco Stralis Natural Power holds the record for natural gas travel: 1,728 kilometers with only one refueling, ie the distance that connects London to Madrid. Compared to the equivalent Euro VI diesel, a Stralis NP powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) emits about 90% less of NO2, 99% less of particulate matter and 95% less CO2, when biomethane is used.
