Prinoth goes to Hydrogen. We spoke with Andreas Muigg, Head of product management, and Martin Kirchmair, Head of research and development. It happened roughly one year ago. We focused on ICE,  diesel, LPG, CNG and GNL engines. We also broached the cool topic of electrification.

Prinoth goes to Hydrogen

Hydrogen? No, we were been quite naive. And yet, in the same calendar year, Prinoth surprised us with the news of the world-first hydrogen and lightest full-electric snow groomers. This news went around the world and involved the mainstream media. Especially the one about hydrogen. The white blanket of snow on the ski slopes and the South Tyrolean scenery in which both these machines and Prinoth itself operate.

Let’s read the official: “The LEITWOLF h2MOTION is the world’s first hydrogen-powered snow groomer and the HUSKY eMOTION is the lightest electric snow groomer on the market. These zero-emission vehicles help contribute to carbon-neutral skiing while providing ski resorts with perfect slopes. «Our Group of companies is not only talking about protecting the environment but is taking concrete steps. We produce renewable energy, develop and manufacture wind turbines and our ropeways offer innovative e-mobility public transport systems. Now we are proud to introduce emission-free snow groomers. Sustainability is not just a word for us, it’s a commitment» says Anton Seeber, President of the HTI Group, who describes PRINOTH as a pioneer.

The pride of the Prinoth President

With the LEITWOLF h2MOTION, our PRINOTH development teams have achieved the connection between zero-emission propulsion and undiminished power. With the new model, we meet all performance-related requirements and achieve the 100% elimination of fossil fuels,” says PRINOTH President Klaus Tonhäuser. A comparison with the diesel LEITWOLF shows that the new, hydrogen-powered version has not lost any of its outstanding technological values. The new concept vehicle with 544 hp (400kW) even surpasses the diesel engine in terms of power.

PRINOTH starts a new era of slope preparation which will have a positive impact on the eco-balance of entire skiing areas. In recent years, ski resorts have been investing significant sums in sustainability concepts. Besides the focus on sustainable-energy generation and the increased use of regional resources, ecologically responsible slope management is a priority. The LEITWOLF h2MOTION will be displayed on December 20 and 21 at the Alta Badia Gran Risa ski slope, during the Ski World Cup races.

In addition to the LEITWOLF h2MOTION, PRINOTH has also launched the HUSKY eMOTION, the lightest electric snow groomer in the world. Lightweight snow groomers are perfect for challenging conditions that require a high degree of manoeuvrability. The manufacturer has set a new benchmark in the winter sports industry, helping to pave the way forward for sustainable skiing.”
